Alice and The Doctor-Shortage -- Debt, Cost, Risk

DEFENDING PHYSICIANS' MEDICAL STAFF PRIVILEGES: (Do you want to risk being in an impersonal organization?)

The Future of Medicine: Megatrends in Medicine that Will Improve Your Health Care & Your Quality of Life

"Would you like fries with that?"  Patients are not customers and doctors are not providers except to corporations which are persons in the Land of the Free...

As medicine becomes sufficiently unrewarding, smart students will not risk becoming doctors without a J.D., and doctors without a J.D. will re-locate or retire early.  All doctors are affected:  "When the plane crashes, it doesn't matter where you sit."  Doctors from other countries will have to come here; approximately 24% of new doctors in the USA are from elsewhere.  However, under the HCQIA of 1986, doctors are denied their right to due process.  This is a legal slavery in the Land of the Free:  In the mind of a corporate Congress and Court, corporations are people and the (Medicare-supported) corporate hospital corporate lawyer (guided by private lawyers such as Horty, Springer, Mattern of Pittsburgh) fights from a dreadnought using Medicare funds, the doctor...from an open raft spending his own money.  For this reason, premedical students should consider taking a law degree before medical school if they intend to practice in the Land of the Free with a debt of several hundred thousand dollars.  Other English-speaking countries do not have this problem, hence the title of this web site...  Our corporate Congress could amend HCQIA to allow due process for its citizens, but is not likely to do so.  The outlook:  More debt, fewer U.S. doctors, more doctors from other countries
