Not to drift too far off talk, but I just lost my position at a hospital after a new
anesthesia group contracted with them. The hospital bylaws allow for physicians to automatically lose their privileges should
there be an exclusive contract in place that one is not part of. I can reluctantly accept that, even though there is at least
one physician (protected by the big spine surgeon) who works outside of the new group's contract. I take issue with the immediate
revocation of my well-earned Senior Staff membership. There is no specific language in the bylaws regarding this but the Chief
of Staff says that since my privileges are gone I can no longer have active patient care responsibilities and are therefore
ineligible for continued membership. My argument is that there's no language specifying this and that privileges and membership
are not uniquely tied together since I can contribute to my local hospital's well-being and growth in other ways. I should
note that there are a number of physicians on the medical staff roster who haven't had any patient contact in 5 or more years
but show up for lunch. I've been pursuing this as I believe the process and decision were invalid and that the action
is discriminatory. The most recent response has a heading of Peer Review Correspondence so I'm wondering if this was done
such that it can be added to my personal file and thus disseminated to others? How it can be peer review related in any sense
it's, given that I was terminated on May 1 when the "exclusive" contract went into effect.
