This is not a subtle
matter: The Republic is out of money; we have not called our legions back to Rome fast enough after two unpaid wars.
In our hospitals, the
question naturally arises how much money reaches the bedside when YOUR CHILD, YOUR SPOUSE, OR YOU are the patient:
Should your taxes support a "nonprofit" Medicare hospital which pays an administrator $6,900,000? $3,500,000? $500,000?
What should be done in cases of urgent
need, such as a transplant or a particularly-expensive treatment? Is it ethical to take money from the salary of a person
who is "earning" $6,900,000 and sleeping at home at night to give to a patient in need?
